Good Riddance to me is the most underrated punk band of all time. I have had this opinion since I was a teenager in the 90s. I never understood how they werenβt so much bigger than they are, even today. I mean, for instance, the gallery I attached to this is the only time I have been able to photograph them. Faturday in San Pedro at the final NOFX shows. It felt like a fucking a honor to photograph them there. My 12th city with NOFX, and I finally got to one of my main bucketlist items. A band I had only seen twice in my life. Once at a side stage at Warped Tour in Pontiac, MI, and the other at the Shelter in Detroit, MI. Their last venture to Detroit was cancelled by a battle with COVID in Canada.

It felt so appropriate to wait for this record to be released to release the photos. I actually waited to edit 90% of it until I got the advanced stream, or until it came out, whichever happened first. Iβve had it for close to 3 weeks, and itβs just so god damn good. It sounds amazing. The crew at the Blasting Room worked their magic, making them sound perfectly crisp, clean, full, and powerful. I want to see these songs live so fucking bad. That to me is the tell-all for a record in these genres, like does it make me get fucking pissed that there isnβt a tour date with my cityβs name on it? Then yes, I am putting it on repeat for a while.

Iβm not here to overanalyze music. Iβm just here to document events, bands, artists, musicians, etc. I like making stuff just as much as I like taking photos or talking shit. I donβt like being a critic. Iβm gonna sit here and talk about Sean Sellers drumming in a way that isnβt praise? Why? I have literally tried to do what he does, and I cannot at all come close. I donβt see music as it has to check boxes or get a fucking ranking or 4 stars for me to give a shit. I kinda just want honesty. Truth. Humility. A group of people being genuine to their abilities and creativity. Good Riddance has that by the bucketloads. This is demonstrated on pretty much every track of this record, let alone every other record they have put out. This is one of the most consistent bands on the face of the planet.

I highly suggest checking this record out, and if this is your first dive into this band, just work your way backwards or start from the beginning, or hit shuffle; it doesnβt matter. Thatβs how good they are. Thatβs how much theyβve dialed in who they are as artists and who Good Riddance is as a band. They still get a little weird. Still get super sappy. But they are mainly pushing the idealism of just trying to be better in a world that is doing everything in its power to keep you cynical and in line.
Some of my favorite tracks are the opener βThereβs Still Tonightβ the ripping of βAll Just Rainβ and the secular flag flying of βDevoid of Faithβ that absolutely blew me away.
